  • Amazing retreat center. I have gone 10+ times and have had a wonderful experience with each one.

This is a place where people don't understand that something isn't true just because it makes you feel good. It is a nice little indoctrination camp where free thought is discouraged and logical fallacies abound.

I attended a religious camp here a couple times. It is amazing how it is set up to play on your emotions, with the camp counselors there to point those emotions towards their version of god. There are often talks of losing friends, being unpopular, death, suicide, or some other tragedy. These talks often happen just before the church services. Then the camp attendees learn to deal with those emotions in a religious setting, so that when they feel "better" about the sad things in their life, they attribute that to god. I can't express how strongly this felt like something I would have also experienced in a cult. Perhaps, in some regards, that is exactly what it is.

I do not think the Christians who attend and organize this camp have any sort of ability to understand how much Kool-Aid they are drinking. This is especially true of young ones, who have been raised in small towns where their religion is virtually all they have ever known. I wish they would exercise a little bit of Freudian introspection.
